Sharad Yadav (1 July 1947 – 12 January 2023) was an Indian politician. He was a prominent socialist leader, having been influenced by Ram Manohar Lohia.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha seven times and to the Rajya Sabha three times.
He represented various constituencies including Jabalpur, Badaun, and Madhepura.
Yadav was a key figure in the Janata Dal and later, the Loktantrik Janata Dal. He also served as a Union Minister in multiple governments, holding portfolios such as Textiles, Food Processing Industries, and Civil Aviation.
His political career spanned several decades, and he was known for his advocacy for social justice and the rights of backward classes. He played a significant role in Mandal Commission implementation.
He was associated with socialist ideology and his political career revolved around fighting for the cause of the downtrodden and backward classes.
